Coaching, Consulting, and Training for Non-Profits

Few coaching and consulting firms are led by someone with more experience in the non-profit sector than Dr. Mike Armour, the founder of Execu-Coach Associates.

During his lengthy career in non-profit circles he has launched a highly successful private school, served as president of another, been a university dean, a college president, chairman of the board of a college-level institute, the senior minister for large urban congregations, president of an international non-profit, the chairman of several multi-million dollar fund-raising drives, a political campaign manager, and a board member for numerous non-profit organizations.

Execu-Coach Associates thus understands the unique challenge faced by those who lead churches or manage non-profit organizations. Non-profits confront issues virtually unknown in the for-profit world, including a the motivation and management of a workforce that is largely volunteer, and the absolute dependence at times on the goodwill of donors.

Even though most of our work is with corporations and businesses, we purposely earmark a large percentage of our time to assist churches, parachurch ministries, educational institutions, and other types of non-profits. In recent years we have conducted a variety of one and two day workshops for churches, schools, associations, and other non-profits, have provided coaching for leaders in these organizations, and have served as consultants for extended periods of time to help specific non-profits restructure or realign themselves strategically.

Many of our more commonly-requested trainings, indeed, are specifically for churches, parachurch organizations, and non-profits, including

  • Leadership in non-profit settings
  • Managing volunteer organizations
  • Motivating and retaining volunteers
  • Building a uniting vision
  • Clarifying core values
  • Building donor support

Churches and other non-profits will find Dr. Armour's use of Gravesian systems analysis particularly helpful in shaping their corporate culture. And while his book, Systems-Sensitive Leadership, is insightful for any leader or manager, it was written specifically for leaders in churches and church-related institutions.
