Dr. Mike ArmourMike Armour brings an exceptional background to coaching. Both academically and in terms of proven leadership, he has demonstrated a mastery of highly diverse fields. He is particularly astute at understanding personal behavior, organizational dynamics, and the process of cultural change.
Coaching gives him the daily opportunity to do what he finds most fulfilling — providing "WOW experiences" that change people's lives. He began coaching as an adjunct to a long career in ministry with large churches in San Jose, Los Angeles, and Dallas. These congregations drew heavily from professional and managerial circles, and Mike became a regular consultant to many business people in his church. He also served as a coaching confidant to dozens of top-performing executives, successful entrepreneurs, and political leaders. During the 1980s he spent several years in academic leadership, first as a professor and dean of students at a prestigious university in Los Angeles, then as president of a small liberal arts college in Portland, Oregon. Today he is a professor of coaching and mentoring for Texas Woman's University School of Management in their Executive MBA program. Throughout most of his adult life he has also been active in the naval reserve. Enlisting while in high school, he worked up through the enlisted ranks and was commissioned into the naval intelligence community in 1970. He eventually retired as a captain with 35 years of total service, including several years of nationwide management duties. As a keynote speaker, Mike is in constant demand from coast to coast and internationally. With an extensive background in both radio and television, he is a highly effective communicator, blessed with a resonant voice and a dynamic delivery that holds audiences in rapt attention. A highly successful author, he has been published in almost a dozen languages. His most recent books include Leadership and the Power of Trust: Creating A High-Trust, Peak Performance Organization and more recently Leadership and Life. He is also an adjunct professor in executive coaching and mentoring for Executive MBA programs in Houston and Dallas. Since 1995 Mike has led programs to develop character curriculum for schools, universities, and youth camps in Russia, the Ukraine, and other nations of the former Eastern bloc. And for almost five years he was CEO of an international non-profit that provides humanitarian services in that part of the world. Mike and his wife Fran have three grown children pursuing careers in music, art, and computer science. He presently lives in the Lakewood section of Dallas and maintains a national coaching, mentoring and consulting practice for both the profit sector and for churches and non-profit institutions. He also takes an active interest in community and political affairs and ran for Congress in the Fifth Congressional District of Texas during the 2002 primary. |
